Every year, the city of St. Francisville hosts the annual Chestnut Festival. The history of the festival starts from the spring of 1967 when members of the Women’s Club of St. Francisville planted Chinese chestnut trees. This was done in an attempt to replace the ones that had died because of blight. This was the beginning of a tradition that sparked the celebration of the Chestnut festival for years to come.

As the years went by, the festivities included more than just plantations and now the event features live musical performances and other entertainment, a car show, wagon rides and even a tractor pulling contest. The highlight of the festival is the parade, which takes place to complete the celebrations. The festival brings in many spectators from all over the county which use it as an opportunity to visit other sites in the city that include an old wooden bridge and log home along with a veteran’s memorial as well.

The climate of St. Francisville is typical to that of the Midwest region and features warmer climate throughout the year with the exception being in the month of July. Being the hottest month, July’s temperatures peak up to 91F, which calls for the installation of proper cooling systems so that everyone can stay comfortable indoors.
